is steps away from where kevin collins disappeared in 1984. >> reporter: san francisco police are expected to release the name and the photo of the man who used to live in this house on masonic. he is longer alive but was a person of interest in the kevin collins. he was questioned after kevin vanished. he had an allah lib by -- alabi. the medical examiner believes the remains that they did found here are that of an animal. the last person kevin collins was talking to was a tall blond man with a big dog -- big dog. the man described like that used to live here. the dogs were never used in the initial search. so that's they came back. >> i just hope there's closure for the family members. very sad story. >> reporter: neighbors we talk to say the school kevin attended st. agnes never recovered after the disappearance, closing a few years later. >> right after that, st. agnes started to pull some of their children out of the school. >> it's concerning. >> reporter: this morning, neighbors are really just amazed that this case has resurfaced. kevin's mother says she feels numb and doesn't know

of people gathered along san francisco's waterfront at midnight to ring in the new year. but it was a holiday celebration marred by violence. ktvu's alex savidge tells us a 12-year-old boy was among three people who were shot. alex? >> reporter: well, as thousands packed the waterfront last night, someone opened fire here on embarcadero close to pier 2. a total of two people shot here. one of them a 12-year-old boy. he was hit in the foot but is expected to be okay. now, this happened about 11:30 last night, as people were waiting for the fireworks show to begin in san francisco. along with the boy wounded, a man was grazed in the hip by a bullet. san francisco police say both of those shooting victims are being treated for nonlife- threatening injuries. at this point, it's unclear why the shooter began to fire or who their intended target was. just about an hour before that, there was another shooting along the waterfront. this one close to fisherman's wharf, near jefferson and mason. one person shot in the hand. police say that person's injuries request are not life- t

cool for some of us. 29 in the bay. upper 30s to low 40s. san francisco, 40 degrees for you. into hillsburg, 32 for you. a little bit of patchy fog over the north bay valley including maybe a little bit of frost as well. icy roads not out of the question. 31 degrees in walnut creek. now that the sun is up, our temperatures will beginning to rebound. we have mostly sunny skies out there and if i back it up a little bit more, you can see how the cloud cover is pushed to the north. no rain in the forecast at least for the weekend and the first half of the wieck. we are looking -- week, we are looking at dry conditions as well. the temperatures above average and nearing 70 degrees in some areas. mid 60s for san jose. slightly warmer for tomorrow. monday, perhaps you have the three day weekend, going to be just as nice. as we get into wednesday, we are looking at the first possibility in a while of maybe some of that wet stuff. more coming up in just a bit, and i'll have an hour by hour detailed forecast coming up in just a bit. >>> coming up, we'll have more on the hostage crisi

from tracy died. the names of the victims have not been released. >>> some san francisco taxi customers are not happy. they are complaining loudly. brian flores is live in san francisco now to tell us what they are complaining about. brian? >> reporter: hi, dave. good morning. if you have actually ridden a taxi here, i would say for the most part, the experience mass been heavily good for a lot of people. for about 1700 people, they didn't like the experience and they complained to the city. according to an article by the bay citizen, about 1700 passengers complained about the their service. riders can complain to the 311 complaint line. the article states between july of 2011 and july of 2012 there was pan increase in 20% -- there was an increase of 20%. a list of complaints taxi drivers driving unsafely on the roads. there were complaints that drivers would refuse to take credit cards. there was at least one incident where a passenger alleged that a driver stole his credit card number. there were also complaints of driver's racial profiling, refusing to pick up passengers because of t

coverage of the near disaster on the san francisco bay that we first covered on ktvu channel 2 news at noon yesterday. this morning, the u.s. coast guard will meet with the pilot of the oil tanker that sideswiped a tower of the bay bridge. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live with new details about this bar pilot's past. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. a coast guard spokesperson tells me there will be an update on this investigation coming after the team is briefed at 8:00 this morning. we do know that investigators will be sitting down later today and talking with the pilot at the controls of this 750-foot oil tanker when it struck one of the bay bridge towers. he's identified as george close with eight years experience. he did pass an alcohol test yesterday and the results of a drug test may come back today. yesterday's accident yesterday after the vessel was heading back to sea. there was heavy fog in the area at the time. that cut visibility on the bay to just about a quarter mile. this double-hauled vessel struck the wood and barrier that sports the bridge on the western sp

their lease comes up, they are likely looking for a new place to live. live in san francisco, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> a search intensifying right now do find a missing 19-year- old sonoma county woman last scene at a new year's event in lake tahoe -- last seen at a new year's event in lake tahoe. tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: the search andreas queue effort is underway for -- search and rescue effort is underway for her right now. family and friends are up there right now. they've been posting fliers like this one in hopes of generating leads. the 19-year-old has not been seen or heard from since shortly before midnight since new year's eve. she was in lake tahoe for a snow globe, a three-day music festival. a friend says she disappeared around 11:30 and then she told her friends show was taking a shuttle back to the horizon resort. she was scotted by -- spotted by guests around midnight. a facebook page has been set up to find her. she's studying to be a paramedics. she's described as-53, long hair died black and a fair complexion. we spoke to south lake tahoe police

area. our inland areas freezing and subfreezing giving you a look there at a beautiful san francisco. the sun is on its way. the official sunrise about 7:20, 7:25, these days depending where you are. fairfield the winds have let up just a bit. you were up to ten miles an hour and because of that fairfield actually starting out warmer than you were 24 hours ago. freezing but still warmer than you are. most of us in and around the bay area 35 in oakland. a few degrees cooler here. 32 in livermore. 30 or so in danville where we saw alex just a few moments ago. nevado checking in about 30, below freezing, at the airport 27 degrees reported there. so we have partly cloudy skies, very cold temperatures this morning, if you are going to get out any time soon be prepared for that winter weather and you have frost which weather as well. you may be scraping the wind shield, just had a light radar. you can see the clouds as they continue to pass through. we have the northerly flow that continues. we have been locked in the pattern for a few days and we will continue this way. here is the ridge

. san francisco has been to the super bowl five times and they've won each game. the last one in 1995. 49ers have settled in at their new headquarters in downtown new orleans. fans greeted the players and took pictures with them in front of large banners. today, the team will begin weight lifting, practice and team meetings and we have our own team in new orleans. there will have live reports leading up to -- they will have their live reports ed looing up to super bowl. immediately after the super bowl we'll have a live postgame show. >>> well, the san francisco port commission expected to give final approval to the long- awaited mission rocked development project next month. the giants hope to break ground on this $1.6 billion project. it's right near at&t park, sometime in 2015. the plans call for a waterfront park and about 1,000 ain'ts along with -- apartment buildings along with restaurants and parks. it's expected to grow baseball fans and many growing around the fast-growing neighborhood right around the ballpark. >>> 7:07. sal castanedo, is joining us to tell us about traffic.

san francisco and los angeles by the year 2029. >>> something to think about as you head out the door. a new report talking about how traffic monitoring systems are failing here in the bay area. reports show that in december only 49% of the bay area traffic sensors worked. only 61% of those electronic message boards were working. the ktvu first told you about these traffic monitoring problems during a special report we did last august. back then the transportation committee called for an investigation. researchers say investing in reliable tools could help traffic jams by about 5%. >> three years after a devastating quake haiti is still in dire straits. they need medicine, food and clean water. in addition hurricane sandy wiped out 50% of the crops. a rally will be held at 4:30 this afternoon outside the oakland red cross on broadway. activists say the red cross got hundreds of millions of dollars in donations but they say little of that money went to help survivors. they say it's in the middle of a four year plan to help. >>> california could have a mega quake that's felt all long

. it is freezing and below freezing in concord, livermore, around the bay, it is a little better. san francisco is one of the warmer spots. 70 in hayward and the clear skies and temperatures in the upper 40s and 50s. right around half moon bay. you can see a few high clouds drifting in. and that is going to be about it. we will have mostly sunny skies. soft sunlight and ridge of high pressure still in place. has been like this for the last several days. it just pushes the storm track well to the north. we will remain high and dry. and if you have tomorrow off as well, we will have a mild forecast for you as well. highs anywhere from upper 50s to mid-60s and some of the warmer spots. hitting 70 degrees. and a northeast breeze will kick up. and it could be a little breezy in your neighborhood. especially along the coast for today. wind will be kicking up for the afternoon. 63 in berkeley and mid-60s for san francisco, novato, santa clara valley and barely budged the numbers from yesterday. santa cruz and in gill roy. the extended forecast is slightly warmer for monday. one more day of the upward

delay. no major problems going through. >>> if you are driving on 101 san francisco its crowded. north and southbound 101 but not a lot of stop and go traffic just yet. >> thank you. very good morning. our system is moving in. not a lot of moisture. there is plenty of activity that goes parallel to the coast, most of it right now is filtering in between san mateo coast and santa cruz mountains. you can see some of that green, 2500 feet right now, still temperatures, 33 to 38 but that doesn't mean they couldn't get a couple inches of snow. over 17 and the summit, 1800 feet. it's in the ballpark. so that's through one by the way the winter weather advisory for the santa cruz mountain. scattered showers, upper 40s, low 50s. if we could get that moisture we would get some snow. there is not a lot to work with. upper 20s, i have heard that, 30s and 40s as well and the temperatures are going to be really cold. you can see what's going on. you will probably see good cloud build ups. skyline. san mateo coast. right down to monterey. it's really getting painted. little bit right here. you can
